Science: This week we will discuss what we can learn from studying the length and direction and shadows, and what causes day and night. We are beginning to make connections between the position of the sun and the length and direction of our shadows. 
Social Studies: This week we will begin Chapter 3 The Geography of Colorado. We will focus on Zebulaon Montgomery Pike and why he thought the front range of Colorodo was special. We will also learn about different places in Colorado and including geographic and physical features, and main cities such as Denver and Colorado Springs.

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! I strongly recommend checking out the Super Moon tonight if you didn’t have a chance last night. It’s the closest its been in 69 years, and we won’t see another Moon this close until 2034!!
We had a fabulous week full of thankfulness. Each student presented their letter Seroquel 300mgbeautifully, and we had a great time hanging out with our friends and families. Our visit to serve the Veteran’s on Friday was absolutely amazing! The students worked so hard, were so pleasant, and even received a standing ovation from the Veterans as we left to come back to school. I don’t know if they realize the impact they had on those men and women, but I am sure that all of them felt very proud for giving of themselves to serve others. We polished off the day on Friday with our first Economy Day. The students enjoyed the shopping, and I definitely think we have a few entrepreneurs in our midst. They did vote to hold a second Economy Day at the end of the second trimester.
What Are We Learning This Week?
Writing: We will conclude our unit on writing a personal narrative this week. The students are working together to revise and edit their work by using a scoring rubric. All of their drafts are on their Google Drive, so they are more than welcome to work on their essay at home. 
Science: We have begun the Science switch! My homeroom class has moved to Mr. Tarlow’s class, so please check his website for up to date information in Science. This week we will begin investigating the reasons our shadow changes during the day.
Social Studies: This week we will continue discussing how America has changed and how it has stayed the same. We will focus on major historical events taking place after World War II. These events will include the Cold War era, the technological and scientific achievements of the United States, the civil rights movements, and the affect of the attacks of September 11th. We will take the Open Book Chapter 2 Test on Friday. The students have a review on pages 70-72 in their student book. Students may take the books home, but please remind them to return them each day.

Spelling Bee Coming Soon!!
– Students were sent home with a list of fourth grade practice words on Friday. I have included the lists for all of the grades in the attachment. 
-Students will compete in a classroom spelling bee. (TBD but before Jan. 20th)
– The top three spellers from each classroom will compete in the grade level bee. (TBD but before Jan. 27th) 
– The top two spellers from the grade level will advance to the all school spelling bee on February 10th, which will include the winners from 5th, 6th, and 7th grades. 
-The school winner will move on to the local spelling bee held in Denver on March 11th. Parents will be responsible for providing transportation to and from the local bee in Denver.

Science: We will conclude our unit on the Sun, Moon, and Planets this week! Our review will take place on Monday, and the unit test will be on Tuesday. Next week, the students will rotate to Mr. Tarlow’s room during Science. During the second trimester they will learn about Living Systems.

These events will include the Cold War era, the technological and scientific achievements of the United States, the civil rights movements, and the affect of the attacks of September 11th. We will begin preparing for a Chapter test next week.

We will focus on how immigration created a diverse nation, the impact of the Great Depression, and the events leading up to and during World War I and World War II. Our class also has the opportunity to “Thank” some local veterans for their service by writing “Thank You” notes to show our appreciation.

It is hard to believe that October is almost over! The Learning Zone
Writing: This week’s DLI focuses on identifying conversation elements and using dialogue. We will also be completing the personal narrative project. Students will work with peers to revise and improve their drafts, edit, and then publish. 
Science: We identified the patterns in the lunar phase, and now we are going to look for patterns in the stars. Our next Investigation will focus on constellations and the reasons why stars appear to move across the night sky.
Social Studies: We are deep in American history, and will spend time this week learning about continued growth in America and the deep divisions that led to the Civil War.

Social Studies: This week we will focus on how the United States grew out of English colonies and became and independent nation, and that the growing nation developed deep divisions that led to the Civil War.
Writing/Spelling: We will continue to work on our personal narrative. We will use peer conferencing and our knowledge of the Ideas and Organization Traits to evaluate drafts, and select the one that is the strongest in those two traits. In Spelling, we will focus on the long u spelling patterns.

October 31st – Fall Classroom Celebrations!!

Your child is invited to dress up in Halloween Costumes or as book characters for their Fall Celebrations on Monday, October 31.  Here are some reminders as you help choose your child’s outfit for the day.

    • Fall Celebrations are at the end of the day (2:00-3:15) so appropriate shoes should be worn throughout.  Students will still attend enrichment classes and play outside on the playgrounds (weather permitting).
    • Costumes should not cause a disruption during the school day.
    • Costume choices should be respectful of others, should not make others feel uncomfortable or unsafe, and should not be covering your child’s face.
    • Costumes that include blood, gore, weapons, face paint, or masks will not be allowed. 
    • Parents will be called to bring in a change of clothes should problems occur with costumes prior to the Fall Celebrations.
    As we conduct our first classroom celebrations for the school year, we hope everyone has a happy and safe Halloween!

Last week was a full week of excitement! Mr. Dennis Croghan from Ball AerospaceQuetiapine prescription order came to present to our class about Pluto.
