2018-2019 Gifted and Talented Programming
At Aspen Ridge, a rigorous academic and social-emotional education is our top priority for students. Through Academic Learning Plans (ALPs), students identified as gifted and talented will benefit from:
- A cluster modeled* classroom where GT grade level students meet and work together every day,
- Personalized and differentiated instruction throughout the school day by professionally trained teachers,
- Daily extension activities offered during FLEX time to meet the needs of our exceptional students, and
- Highly skilled teachers trained to develop lessons that advance our gifted and talented learners.
We believe that learning should be fluid, students should be challenged, and creating environments to maximize both of these beliefs is key to success. The Aspen Ridge gifted and talented program sets our school apart from the others.
*Gifted identified students are clustered into gifted cluster classrooms with teachers who have been designated as such by the school principal. Gifted Cluster teachers receive professional development in gifted education, and facilitate with the planning and implementation of differentiated curriculum and instruction through regularly scheduled monthly Gifted Cluster teacher meetings and during other staff development times. In this model, gifted students receive differentiated curriculum and instruction in all content areas on a daily basis. Classroom compositions are carefully structured with two main goals: to ensure that there is a balance throughout the grade level, and to reduce the learning range found in any given classroom. This system provides opportunities for teachers to more readily respond to the needs of all their students. Aspen Ridge attracts a large population of gifted and talented students each year and develops many others.
